Biographical / Historical

Adjunct Faculty Advisor
A newsletter by and for Adjunct Faculty of Oakland Community College. In the 1990s it was published 5 times yearly and then in 2001 was reduced to once a semester.

AlumnNews
Newsletter for Alumni of Oakland Community College. The first Issue was sent to 1,800 former students and the second issue published in Spring 1995, was circulated to over 100,000 former students living in Oakland County.

Board Digest
Produced by the Board of Trustees, the first Board Digest debuted on December 16, 1966. Although official minutes of each meeting of the BoT were distributed regularly to all campuses and the former Central Office, several members of the staff expressed interest in the production of a digest containing the highlights of its official meetings.

Counselor’s Corner
Auburn Hills Counseling Department Newsletter.

Creative Edge
Created as a reference and information tool that “combined the best features of the Yellow Pages, the Reader’s Digest, and USA Today.” It provided concise information on the progress of the College’s key units to all OCC employees. Its emphasis and format differed from OCCurrences, which was oriented toward the presentation of material that portrayed the college’s personal and human side. The first issue was March 1988.

Faculty Forum
A Faculty newsletter which started in 1965.

Friday’s Child
Orchard Ridge writers at their best- a collection of short stories and poetry. Published circa early 1990s.

Harvest
A student literary magazine consisting of poetry and short stories from the Orchard Ridge Campus of OCC. The first issue was published circa 1973.

HDC News
Newsletter of the Human Development Center. The first issue was Spring 1995.

Highland News
Highland Lakes Campus student and faculty newsletter.

Highland Voice
An independent student newspaper from the Highland Lakes Campus established in 1965 and ran through the 1988-1989 academic year.

Insights
A Royal Oak and Southfield Campus student literary magazine. The intent was to display student artwork and thought-provoking ideas.

The Nike
A newspaper published out of the Auburn Hills Campus with articles related to student government, faculty sabbaticals, and campus news.

Nonesuch, a Journal
A quarterly publication produced by the Orchard Ridge literary publications service circa 1968. All materials, with the exception of the photos in the center spread, are original and contributed by students.

Northern Lights
An annual publication by the English department of the Auburn Hills Campus aimed at encouraging High School Students to develop their writing.

Oakland Senior Citizen Action Newsletter
A Monthly newsletter providing information and editorials to senior citizens.

OCC Faculty Association Newsletter (OCCFA)
Monthly newsletter sent to OCC Faculty.

OCC Index, Office of Institutional Planning and Analysis
A monthly publication from the Institutional Planning and Analytics Office. This includes demographic information about the college and information about how these demographics have changed over time.

OCC Presidential Newsletter
A quarterly publication including news and updates from President Dr. Joseph Hill.

“OCC Update” – Chancellors Newsletter
A newsletter published once per semester by Chancellor Richard Thompson, which informs students and faculty about campus-wide activities.

Occult
A literary magazine published annually at the Highland Lake Campus. It includes a collection of student poetry, writings, illustrations, and other work.

Occurrences
A monthly publication for the employees of OCC, it provided articles and photographs of activities on campus, notable information about employees, and college-wide events.

Orchard Ridge Journal
An Orchard Ridge Campus newspaper created in 1967, which was sent to students twice per month and included student literary works.

The Orchard Ridge Recorder
A student published newspaper with a faculty advisor intended to “facilitate student thought”. Includes student news, articles about college events and activities, with a particular emphasis on student government.

Perspectives
Collections of writing and poetry from the Highland Lakes Campus.

Pieces of Ourselves
Student literary publication, including poetry and short stories from the Oak Park and Royal Oak Campuses.

President’s Corner
Highland Lakes Campus, 2000. Includes news and information targeted to students, with upcoming event information.

Presidential Newsletter
A monthly newsletter started by OCC President John E. Tirrell and continued by OCC President Joseph E. Hill. This newsletter included information about overall curriculum changes, property acquisitions, student enrollment information, and other things relevant to administration. The last issue was January 1969; it was then superseded by “Inter-Link”.

Quintet
A monthly campus news publication for students and faculty. Published by Oakland Community College’s Marketing Department.

Reflections
A Student photography publication from the Orchard Ridge Campus.

Speakeasy
Journal of student literary works from the Auburn Hills Campus.

Roundtable Rag
Articles, news, and an event calendar for students and faculty interested in Technology. Includes information about the “Technology, Learning, Technology Roundtable” event series, and the Technology Management Committee.

The Second Front
The Official Student Publication from the Highland Lakes Campus. Includes news, articles, and upcoming event information.

What’s Happening
Monthly newsletter from Chancellor Thompson’s office sent to all OCC students and staff, with information about college-wide events, including layoffs and acquisitions.

Witness
A literary magazine first launched by former OCC Faculty member and Witness Editor Peter Stine and published independently in 1987. When Stine joined the OCC Staff in 1989, he brought Witness with him. It was at that time Oakland Community College took up the publishing. Witness includes essays, fiction, poetry, and other writing from nationally known writers, as well as new talent. It highlights the role of the modern writer as witness and is a blend of literary and issue-oriented publications.

This collection is arranged alphabetically.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

This is an artificial collection assembled by the College Archivist. Witness literary journals were donated by Peter Stine in February 2021.
